Don't be a doubting Thomas.

Dealers will see the bike as an '08 model in either the 3rd or 4th quarter '08 to race in WSB in '09.

Price is supposed to be competitive.......what ever that means and with what. On a personal note, I can't wait for either it or the upcomming R1200S HP.

That would be very cool; it now seems it's going to be reality now.

Of course the price has to be in 13-14k range look at the price of their F800 and their other smaller bikes. It to bad it’s going to be released late in 08, I’m ready now. Of course I'm always ready for a new bike.

Of course the R1200 HP2 is going to be way cool also. I was hoping we be seeing a K1200s HP2. One the fellows at the local BMW shop told me the bike have to be out for a while be fore they are built into a HP2 version.

If they are really going SKB racing I wonder who would be riding for them. I think that Ben Spies would be at the top of my list. However, I sure some MotoGP team will pick him up.

The bike will be competitive pricewise with the likes of the 1098 and not the base 1098.

actually, it's my understanding and I've mentioned it in this section before that because this bike doesn't have any of the unique parts that make a BMW expensive, such as alternative front suspension, or trick shaft final drive, (no tele, no duo and no para), also no ESA and no ABS at base, it will be priced at around 12-13K or so for the MSRP.

You are talking standard telescopic front forks and chain final drive.

this bike based on what I've heard mostly on Cycle News, is meant to directly compete with the Japanese 1000C class... At some point they may make an HP version, if they do, it will be priced at above 20K... S

Dean,

That where I was thinking, it was going to be priced more like a Euro bike. Shiva though BMW would price it like a Jap sport bike. I could never see that BMW would want to compete in the market with the Japs.

Really a 11.5K sport bike from BMW I never saw that happening. I wonder when they will announce the bikes configuraton and specs.
I really interested in the HP and the suspension.

The local dealer said he heard it will come with an Ohlins suspension. If it does not come with a high performance suspension just think how long it will take to get one via the after market. If I wanted a striped down bike like that I get a proven winner like a GSXR 1000 or an R1. Hope thay do it right.

the K1200S has a MSRP of about 14,500 and it has loads of technology and unique features. The K1000RS will be around 12K - 13K. (no body said 11.5K) Ohlins will be extra if offered, same as the R1200S, where the Ohlins package added $700. ABS will probably add another 1000 and heated grips and so on. but a bare bone version can be as cheap of 12.5 and a fully loaded about 15. These are of course just assessments based on info read on bike mags and a knowledge of previous pricing strategies from BMW. :) we may know the real news as easly this November at the Milan show... Shiva, I think that you will see things like traction control and switchable ABS plus Ohlins, You will prolly see a price point closer to 15 K (14999) . To have traction control for WSB, it must be on the bike for the public.

BTW, I am talking about the US market, but the bike will be for WSB.

But on the other hand  I could be wrong

Hi all
Just new to the forum. I've been reading this forum for quite a while now
and I'd like to thank you for this great source of info on BMW K bikes.
It contributed to the purchase of my first BMW (K1200R) :P
Back to this thread, I'm confident BMW can achieve something interesting in this highly competitive liter market segment traditionnaly dominated by Japanese brands.
MV Agusta just proved that the best Hyper sport bike of 2007 is not a japanese one by winning the Superbike test in Jerez earlier this year beating the japanese competition head and shoulder. MV will enter the WSB champ in 08.
All the F1 background of BMW will surely be very beneficial to the future BMW bike engine design and electronics. A good example is the very successful collaboration between Ducati and Ferrari for the Ducati MotoGP bike.
It's going to be fun to see BMW, and other european brands like MVaguta, Aprilia competing with the Japanese manufacturer in the WSB championnship. I would be very tempted to trade my R1 with a BMW for my track days, if this K1000RS hits the street with decent specs and BMW offers racing parts to upgrade the street model to racing specs (as Yamaha does for exp.)

So the owner at of my local BMW, MV and Ducati shop stated the liter bike is just BS. Well I hope not, but if it happens we won't see it till next year. The press was also talking about a new Ducati Monster the dealer say the BS too. So my next performance bike will be the Aprilla V4 what ever it’s going to be called.

Now as far MV ruling AMA and Superbike, it not going to happen. Suzuki Yamaha, Honda have to much experience in development in racing parts designs and money. While a MV F4 312 is cool, try spending 8-10K on a Suzuki or a Yamaha, that makes it and 20K bike that the MV will never beat. Still the MV has a Cool factor that the other can't match.

Just check what the Yamaha factory has to offer in the way of racing parts for the R1, it quite impressive. Of course the after performance parts market for the Jap bikes is huge, not so for the MV.

funny, you'd actually listen to a dealer... it's proven every single time that we (the collective online wisdom) know more about the market than dealers. Ducati is for certain coming with a new Monster... S

jim, your dealer has turned out to be quite misinformed, both about the new K1000 and Duc monster... here's the new monster... :)

Well dean, if you read through the forum you will see where I posted the remarks from a top executive say they are going to participate in SBK in 2009. Also the new bike should be introduced next year. However it’s not going to compete in price with the Jap bikes.

Last week my local dealer confirmed an inline 1000cc bike will be made for 2009 WSB, available to us mere mortals in 2008. He had a wicked grin when pressed further, he obviously knows more but wasn't willing to say.

...says he'll ring when the HP2 arrives !!!!!!! DROOL

shiva, I was just letting you what the dealer propaganda is, not what I thought. Anyway I have no........desire to own a little 695 monster which looks like all the rest of current Monsters. Where are the 1098 or 11xx Monsters, now that is what I would be interested in.

Of course the dealer has a bunch of 07's Monsters on the floor. Besides I would buy a Super Duke an Aprilia RSV/Tuono first.
