Hi everyone,

I just recently joined this forum. I currently ride an 07 R1200RT but will soon swap that for a new K1300S. The bike hopefully will arrive within a week. Once I get the bike I'll post some pictures.

Hi guys,

Great forums here..... read lots and looked at all the vids...superb!

Well i had the K13S demo out for the full day on saturday and was completely spellbound when i returned with it. Stupid grin on face, heart still racing after a 2 mile clear straight road blast and the strong knowledge that i am getting one!!!! I currently have a Suzuki GSX650F (now for sale along with car!!) which has been a great bike for me since ive been off bikes for a few years. Im 37 and live in Lincs where we have great roads for biking. Whilst the GSXF has been solid, well planted and heavy (which i like) and has plenty of fun inside that 650 inline 4, i really wanted something with more torque and comfort. Recently ridden 1000cc Fazers, Triumph Sprint ST which are nice enough and was going to try the ZZR14 but after demo of the k13 there simply is not turning back! Saddening thing is that i work overseas and since i dont like coming home in winter in favour of tropical climates, i wont be back until next easter for a 2-3 months break. However this gives me lots of time to chat with you guys on mods, specs, problems (hopefully not) and all good advice you can afford me. Look forward to getting aquainted with you all over next few months and maybe riding out in UK next year with some of ya.

Take care all and see you around....

No mistake: K13 is really a beautiful bike..

No problem with issues: Is true, but also is true that problems are solved across the time, BMW guys AND US, are working for it..

Thank you Bernado

Only 2 thing i was worried about after 8 hrs on the bike (not in one go i hasten to add......3 1/2 hrs max with no back ache)...

1 - vibration: after an hour and a half i was getting some tingling and numbness in my hands....possibly my riding technique which needs addressing however i thought i was on the bars fairly lightly... but when in a string a sweepies and bendies maybe i changed subliminally??? what you think? I had read a review that mentioned this - but you can never be certain of the reviewers riding technique or interpretation.

2 - when serious acceleration applied and up to 120-140 mph i experienced a bit of steering wobble. Is this a characteristic of bike? Can a steering damper be fitted to these? i was a bit concerened of tank slapping but when bike went back i saw that the tyres (tires to you US folks) were a bit squared-off. Since its a demo you can expect that test pilots will push all boundaries (as i did) and therefore could it possibly be this that impinged the ride. On the striaght its fine. On a good steep leaning bend its fine...... just the middle ground when i experienced the unsettled steering.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...... still finding my way around this forum

Hi Lee:

It's ok , but the correct way is "Tech, Service and Maintenance", on two separated themes: Vibration and steering stability

But, previously, try a search with the words :

For the first: Vibration handlebar,
For the second: Steering, front fork, suspension, stability, or similar.

Here in the forum you have a lot of information..

If you don't find anything, just initiate a new thread with your doubts.. we can help you.. :)

My experience:

Vibration: in ranges of 5000, 7000, 9000. a little, but is not an issue
Steering: Very , very stable at high speed, at 140 Mph (225 Km/h) I can go stright or cornering without problems. HInt: Don't make efforts on the handlebars, let it almost free, support you with your stomach muscles and corner with your body.
Tyre wearing: Yes, K13 is a "tyre wear machine", but the square-off don't disturbs ridding.

Hope this helps you...

Hi, Im YMFB

I posted on the tell us about you thread so this is just to say the forum looks great and Im sure I will have some fairly silly questions when I get my K1300S in about three weeks time.

Right now Im selling all my old unwanted Ducati bits so that I can INVEST is some carbon goodies.

Is the tank metal or plastic as I have a nice magnetic tank bag which I will sell on if its no use on the K1300S.

Cheers
Hoping the weather stays like this

I am Mike Hartz from Northern Indiana. Just bought 05' K1200S and put 1000 miles on it the first 2 weeks! I was at the MOTO GP in Indianapolis last weekend and had the priveledge of meeting Shiva. Thanks for taking a moment to talk . I LOVE MY K1200S!! I am 6'4'' and it fits me so well. Taking her in on Fri for 6000 mile service. This sight was very helpful with all sorts of questions I had before I bought her. Looking forward to signing on regularly. I'll add some pics. later.

See ya on the road!

I'm new here and to BMW. I bought a 2004 K1200RS a week ago. I absolutely love it. I've gone from a Buell S3 Thunderbolt to the K1200RS. No comparison. The Buell had gobs of low end power. I think it could pull you off the back if you weren't holding on tight. But, there was just no sophistication. Poor ride, loud, and I think the bigger, heavier BMW actually handles better. So far I love it.

Thanks,
