Hi Shiva,

Nice Bike nice write-up! :D

I was just about to buy a 2BR pipe but now I think I will go with the Remus. Can you tell me the name of the chip that you combined the pipe with? Does it come from Remus or do I have to look somewhere else?

Cheers scoob

hi, thanks for your comment. the chip comes from Remus in the US, from a place called MaxMoto, and it's supposed to work with the exhaust. if you call MaxMoto mention my bike and they'll fill you in. cheers, S

Hi Shiva:
Just wondering about your take on the Staintune full system. I have one on my '04 GT with a Power Commander using DynoJet's map for this configuration. I'm happy with the results but wondering how it would compare with your setup.

hi Kpilot welcome to the forum. well, you know I used Staintune on my bike for all of 1500 miles, before it broke into two pieces going around a tight corner at the Blue Ridge. I think I still have some pictures from then.

Here you go:

Speaking with the Staintune people after the fact they mentioned that they use a process called Cold Welding that is supposed to create nicer welding finish at a cost of less strength. Since then, I've heard from quite a few people who had the same experience with 'tune pipes on K bikes.

Of course I can't recommend them. However, this pipe when it's working, does offer a nice power increase and it can be IMO too loud with the baffle removed.

Staintune

Thanks for the reply Shiva.....looks like Staintune reacted to the situation....check out attached pic....design was changed.....I have over 60.000 miles on this one....with the Power Commander, I'm very happy with the performance improvement....I have noticed that the 'Tune gets a little louder with age, but I like it.

Nandi

Postby Bat on Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:20 am

Hi Shiva!
Found pictures of Nandi on the web when I was looking for upgrades for my K12rs.
It is really nice work you have done!
I submit a picture of my bike. I have got tired of scratches coming up as a result from stone pitting from the highway and the tank bag moving around on top, so I made me a set of carbon fiber cowlings. They are made of a high temp “preepreg” carbon woven (had some that had run out of time) in an autoclave under high temp and pressure. I have them unpainted, a raw surface directly from mould. Now, scratches do not seem to appear, it is just matt black.
This baby has taken me around Europe without problems for ten years now.
Nice forum! Looking forward to read more
PS. Your Remus system is interesting, will have to look into that.
Cheers!

Gorgeous ride, excellent job reincarnating a deity!! Have you ever tried a Black Hole exhaust? Just wondering , been doing some research, quite impressive on spreadsheets, just wondering about on asphalt?

Ztechnik Storage Pod

Postby scorpion 237 on Thu Aug 14, 2008 7:10 pm

Yes it is quite nice. I bought one from the beemer dealer in watsonville.
It ran me 130, now trying to fit it to the seat and will need to modify the hook-strap some because I have a corbin seat on mine and the hooks do not grab the edge ("rail") underneath the seat, so may need to fit something for the hooks to grab-ahold of. Put something in there and it blows off, you won't know about it for a few miles is my guess.
Scorpion.
PS. I just got mine back from the shop and it "is" heavy, might need to join a gym so i don't drop mine in the driveway.

Here's the link, like I said, looks great on paper. I am impressed with their "butt in seat" approach to evaluation, but I like specs also.

oh the RB Racing exhaust. I know these guys. I have no comment on this. I think Remus kicks ass on the K12RS.

Shiva, thanks for the advice, I'll have to get a Remus ordered, the only thing worse than the stock seat is the stock exhaust.

Let me explain. Because the K12RS is so darn heavy, it requires a great deal of back pressure or low-end torque to propel it forward quickly.

The stock exhaust is actually very effective. It's not good looking but it performs well.

Two-Bros in essence kills your low-end torque for some added hp in the very top of the RPM range. unless you plan to race your K12RS, having an increase in HP at 8750 RPM, yet losing it at 4 or 5K RPM is pure criminal.

REMUS uses an air box on their K12RS header pipes, just so to retain as much of the back pressure as possible. just for that alone they provide, IMO, a great practical option. You get noticeable HP increase across the band (or you won't lose too much in the low-end). Hence, for me, they win for the K12RS. Also, they are a quality product and they don't require repacking. S

K, thanks for the guidance, always nice to get seasoned veterans to help the newby's, just migrated to the K12 from the darkside(HD's). Where'd you get those bad-ass mirrors? The stock lolipops got to go!!

Re: Nandi 2.0 - Badder and Blacker [Images & Video]

Postby clifflusk on Thu Oct 23, 2008 2:30 pm

I know I'm a little late to the "show," but I have to say that Nandi 2.0 is the most tasteful interpretation of the RS I've seen. I too ride an RS, and chose my '02 because it is a BMW, and because I am 6'6" tall, and "crotch rockets" don't fit. I have lowered the pegs another 1 1/2 inches with billet extensions, and raised the grips and pulled them back another inch in both dimensions. (I found that the alteration of grip location greatly improved my low speed maneuverability) I have a Sargent seat which is da' bomb.

I rode into Hot Springs Arkansas along Hi-way Five, a nice moderately twisty back road last Sunday. Coming from behind were three yo-yo's on Suzuki Gixers. Even with my hard cases on, the old man showed 'em what real engineering is all about. They caught up with me at my favorite Buffalo Wing Restaurant. The comments? "BMW makes motorcycles?"

Got off topic, but this is my first posting, so I had to babble a bit.

Once again, your upgrades and attention to such a fine bike are admirable.

Hi Shiva,

The mirrors on your bike look great. Did you just remove your stock ones and use the saengs instead? How's the visibility? And how do they attach? It looks from their website that most of the models they sell are suction cup mounted.

Thanks!

Hi, yes, I only use the Saeng mirrors on this bike and I'd say after about 60,000 miles on these mirrors, they seem to work, but it's not for everybody and can't recommend them being used alone for safety reasons. meaning use at your own risk. 8) but they would work great as blind spot mirrors.

these mirrors take varying types of stems, I use a threaded one, put through the turn signal housing and bolted inside the housing. 8)

NANDI IS BACK!

After exactly 1 year in storage at a local shop run by a friend, Nandi is back with a vengeance. While at the shop the bike received a few fixes and upgrades, including brand new front rotors, new brake pads, new Metzeler Z6 Interact tires, all fluid change and a total rebuilt of the final drive, including a new final drive seal. I think I am forgetting a few things, but the bike runs great. I put about 100 miles since I picked it up over the weekend, just to see how it runs.

Although you can instantly feel the difference in weight between the K12RS and my K1300S and no question that the K13 blows the tires off of the K12RS in every aspect, BUT this is one badass, mean and fast machine. It's so macho, it wants to be manhandled at every turn and due to the low seat height of the K12RS and long reach to the bars, it feels like a drag racer.

The all black trim certainly adds to its mean demeanor and enhances its badassness. I took some pics today in the 100deg f (37 c) heat, although didn't like the result, but managed to salvage 4 shots. Hope you enjoy.

PS: I can't bring myself to sell this bad boy. It's got personality dripping from every one of its curved body panels.

THERE IS MORE TO RIDING THAN JUST POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO

Now that Nandi is back I am going to be putting some miles on it. It's impossible to judge a bike based solely on its own merit, so I can't help comparing it to the K1300S which I have been riding now for a year and 10,500 miles (17,000 km).

Nandi has now 74,500 miles (120,000 km) and it really feels like new. It actually looks extremely good for a 11 year old bike.

This particular K12, with a chip, K&N and full Remus is a torque monster. It doesn't care at all what gear you're in. It pulls without a fuss from start in 3rd gear or you can ride it in 1st all over town, without any sign of engine stress. Actually I find myself changing gears less often with Nandi. On my K13 the engine screams past 6K rpm and begs for a gear change. On Nandi, you can ride all the way to red line and the bike doesn't push you for a gear change. Since I haven't ridden Nandi for a year I have to adjust my riding, but it is deceptively fast and has an odd sense of speed. 80 on Nandi feels like 50 on the K13. The K12 doesn't even get serious until you hit 90, it simply purrs at any gear at normal US highway speeds of 70mph. The K12 has a trademark luxurious, plush and glass-smooth ride.

Nandi is an excellent commuter. It's plush, comfy, has monstrous torque so gear changes in traffic are kept at a minimum, super planted on the highway, it has a light clutch and changes gear with no noise and no fuss. Just 1/2" pull on the clutch lever and a nod to the shifter and the gear is changed.

What a bike!
