Need a little help 2002 k1200rs

Postby pierredulac on Wed May 05, 2010 12:23 pm

Afternoon.
Just bought a 2002 k1200RS to transport me and my dad to the Isle of Man TTraces in June. The only problem is that everytime you enter a corner with more than 1 degree of lean, the centre stand scrapes the road and unsettles the bike.
I don't want to remove the centre stand unless i have to... i had the bike serviced today and asked if they had any ideas. They said that they couldn't find any way to raise the ride height. I have stiffened the suspension but it has had very little effect.
Anybody have any ideas ? I'd rather not be responsible for my fathers premature death !

I agree, she does handle very well but it doesn't stop the centre stand legs touching down mid corner two up ... perhaps it's our badly maintained roads over here in the UK.

Just to clarify i was being sarcastic when i said 1 degree of lean.... it turns into corners no problem and will lean to a reasonable angle, but grinds away like a man with a monkey if it comes across a bump in the road mid corner.

I'd say you got no suspension left on your bike or two up, you are setting your suspension preload way too soft. The K12RS is a great cornering machine, but due to its weight (630 lbs) it takes experience to ride it well.

Hi,I sorted the preload prior to request for help. i thought there may be some sort of jack up kit.. although i realise that Beemers are a bit different. Experience wise after 30 years ( not as much as some of the guys ! ), i like to think that my style is smooth and progressive and doesn't effect my other bikes .
It looks like it's time to remove the centre stand ! ;-)

Well.... centrestand removed and the bike is transformed !
It now holds a constant curve without fear of digging in.
